Today I’m coming at you with a highly requestion post — my vegan skincare routine aka “Hey Candice what cruelty-free products do you use?”

Vegan Skincare Routine for Evening

I’ve been making Vegan recipes on my website and YouTube channel for over 6+ years now, and have been getting many messages recently asking about my skincare routine and what vegan skincare products I use.

As many of you know, I live a vegan lifestyle. However, I don’t really share much about my vegan clothes, skincare and other products that I use daily. I only really show you guys my vegan recipes and what I eat regularly. I’ve begun creating more content around my eco-conscious vegan lifestyle to help you guys adopt a similar eco-friendly and/or vegan lifestyle. And so far, you all seem to really like it.

So I figured I’d create a blog post about my Vegan Skincare Routine for Evening and the Cruelty-Free Products I use at night time! Keep in mine, my vegan skincare routine is for acne-prone skin, but there are many products I use that could be used on any skin type, just check the labels based on your specific skin type.

Vegan Skincare Routine for Evening

First things first, I always put my hair up in a ponytail and use a headband to make sure no skincare products are going into my hair. Here are my next steps in my skincare routine:

1. Vegan Makeup Remover: Coconut Oil

Vegan Makeup Remover: Coconut OilFor a vegan makeup remover, I used a variety of things. For a more natural (and cheap) makeup remover, I often used coconut oil, mostly on eyes and lips though, since I tend to break out if I use it all over my face to remove makeup. For other vegan products that I’ve used as a makeup remover is Pacifica Cactus Water Cleansing Tonic as well as NYX Eye & Lip Makeup Remover. These products are vegan and aren’t tested on animals, which makes them both great cruelty-free makeup remover! When I have lash extensions in, I don’t use makeup remover.

When it comes to removing your makeup, whatever makeup remover you use, I highly recommend re-usable makeup pads. If you’re eco-conscious like me, these re-useable cotton pads are a great way to cut down on waste for the environment. Instead of traditional cotton pads, you can just throw these in your washing machine with your normal wash and reuse them again.

2. Vegan Cleanser: Environ Cleansing Lotion

Vegan Cleanser: Environ Cleansing LotionFor a vegan face cleanser, my dermatologist recommended Environ’s Skin EssentiA Cleansing Lotion. It’s a mild cleansing lotion that’s moisturizing and gently lifts surface impurities while maintaining the effects of the skin’s natural moisture balance. It’s also a medical grade product line, which is great for my acne-prone skin and really helps me have clear skin. I’m loving that Environ is cruelty-free and offers many vegan skincare products.

For my Toronto & GTA Readers: I buy my Environ EssentiA products at Skin Health Clinic on King West and Bay street in Toronto. They are offering 20% off your first visit for treatments, all ENVIRON products, cosmetic procedures– or all three! All you have to do is mention EDGY VEG! I do not get a commission from this clinic, I just love them! Book here: https://www.skinhealthclinic.ca/

3. Vegan Toner: The Ordinary Squalene Toner

Vegan Toner: The Ordinary Squalene TonerFor a vegan toner, one of my favourites is The Ordinary’s Glycolic Acid 7% Toning Solution. This toner contains a variety of plant extracts and leaves the skin feeling smooth after removing dead skin cells. I also like to alternate and use Derma-E’s Firming toner (which is vegan!), especially if I don’t feel like exfoliating my skin certain evenings.

4. Vegan Peptide Serum: The Ordinary’s Argireline

Vegan Peptide Serum: The Ordinary's ArgirelineFor a vegan peptide serum, I use The Ordinary’s Argireline Solution 10%. I love The Ordinary since they do not test on animals and are all, if not mostly, vegan! This vegan product is known as the “liquid Botox” because it improves the appearance of facial areas prone to developing dynamic folds, including around the eyes and in the forehead area.

5. Vegan Eye Treatment: The Ordinary’s Caffeine Solution

Vegan Eye Treatment: The Ordinary's Caffeine SolutionFor a vegan eye treatment, I use The Ordinary’s Caffeine Solution 5% + EGCG. Basically, this treatment helps reduce the appearance of eye puffiness, pigmentation, and dark circles. I alternate and also use The Orinary’s Niacinamide 10% + Zinc 1%!

Shop for Vegan Eye Treatment here:

6. Vegan Eye Cream: Environ’s Eye Gel

Vegan Eye Cream: Environ's Eye GelFor a vegan eye cream, my dermatologist recommended Environ’s Skin EssentiA Antioxidant & peptide Eye Gel. This eye cream is super moisturizing and rich in antioxidant vitamins A, C, and A. It helps soften the appearance of fine lines and gives a firmer, lifted appearance to the skin immediately around the eyes. Suitable for all skin types.

All you have to do is mention EDGY VEG! I do not get a commission from this clinic, I just love them! Book here: https://www.skinhealthclinic.ca/

7. Vegan Hyaluronic Acid: Hylamide Hyaluronic Acid

Vegan Hyaluronic Acid: Hylamide Hyaluronic AcidFor a vegan hyaluronic acid, I use The Ordinary’s sister brand: Hylamide’s Low-Molecular HA with 5 hyaluronic complexes. This is a plant-based HA and also a cruelty-free brand. This product is basically a rehydration serum with 5 forms of hyaluronic compounds, which is supposedly better than other hyaluronic acids.

8. Vegan Face Moisturizer: DERMA-E Firming DMAE Moisturizer

Vegan Face Moisturizer: DERMA-E Firming DMAE MoisturizerFor a vegan face moisturizer, I use the Firming DMAE Moisturizer from DERMA-E. This light moisturizing cream contains a variety of nutrients and antioxidants as well as assists in the skin’s firmness and elasticity. It is also suitable for young or sensitive skin.

9. Vegan Spot Treatment: Environ’s Sebu-Spot Blemish Gel

Vegan Spot Treatment: Environ's Sebu-Spot Blemish GelFor a vegan spot treatment, my dermatologist recommended Environ’s Botanical Infused Sebu-Spot Blemish Gel. This is a spot treatment that is specifically formulated to assist in improving the appearance of visible spots and blemishes. I use this at night because it literally eats away at my spots and causes my skin to flake; aka it works amazing, I just don’t want flakey skin during the day.

For my Toronto & GTA Readers: Get 20% off all ENVIRON EssentiA products at Skin Health Clinic on King West and Bay street in Toronto. All you have to do is mention EDGY VEG! I do not get a commission from this clinic, I just love them! Book here: https://www.skinhealthclinic.ca/

10. Vegan Lip Balm: Deciem’s Petrowhat? Lip Balm

For a vegan lip balm, I use Deciem’s Petrowhat? lip balm. Many lip balms have petrolatum-based formulations, but this one is filled with skin-identical Amino Acids in a Plant-derived Squalane and Baobab Oil base. It protects, hydrates and repairs dry skin and it’s great for wearing it at night. I don’t really like the smell/taste, but my best friend Ryan gave it to me and it hydrates my lips overnight without any harsh chemicals.

So that’s it! My vegan skincare routine for evening & all the cruelty-free products I use before bed! What vegan products do you use in your nighttime skincare routine? Leave me a comment! I’m always open to trying new products to better my skincare routine!

5 natural skin care tips for glowing skin

Our skin is our largest organ, and there are simple and effective things that you can do daily that won’t be too much fuss, or break the bank. Follow these easy 5 steps daily, and you will have glowing, healthy skin no matter what time of year it is.

drink lots of water

  1. Stay hydrated: Drinking water is one of the best things you can do to keep your skin looking young and glowing all year long. Water is a very important part of not only my beauty regime, but also my diet. I drink a minimum of 2 liters of water, averaging at about 3-4 liters daily. I know that sounds like a lot of water, but it ‘s really simple to keep track of and accomplish. We have a Tyent USA water ionizer in our home for alkaline water. We now drink Tyent’s level 9.5 pH alkaline water daily because it provides faster hydration, since it’s rich in dissolved hydrogen. Faster hydration means your body will be better hydrated from the inside out. When alkaline water first become a thing, I will be honest– I thought it was a scammy fad. But after drinking alkaline water on a regular basis, I was convinced that it does in fact make a difference. It tastes much better than tap water making it easier for both James and I to consume more water through the day, and I actually feel more hydrated after consuming it.

  1. Get in those antioxidants: Those dark spots and wrinkles that make you groan every time you look in the mirror are actually the result of free radicals. Eating a diet rich in whole foods, focusing on those high in antioxidant like berries, kale and other dark coloured fruits and veg, while also drinking alkaline water will provide your body with antioxidants. When your body is rich in antioxidants, it can fight against those free radicals that cause many of these problems more easily.

  1. Tone your skin: Your skin’s pH is naturally around a 5. So, while consuming alkaline water is great for the INSIDE your body, you want to tone your skin with something more acidic to bring it back to that natural pH. I use my Tyent water ionizer to create ACIDIC WATER– this helps keep my skin pH balanced and removes any residue left behind that my soap may have not removed. You can also tone your skin with diluted apple cider vinegar to help kill those germs and bring your skin back to balance—your skin will be a tad stinky afterwards though…

Acid Water cleaning produce

  1. Eat Clean: Eating a whole food diet is the best ting you can do for your skin. Brightly coloured organic fruits and veg along with good fats are the best medicine you can buy for tired, lifeless skin. That being said, organic produce is expensive and is often coated with wax, sprays and pesticides—something that is terrible harmful not only for your skin, but your entire body! One thing that surprised me completely when I started using my water ionizer is when I learned that I could wash my veggies with acidic water to remove these harmful chemicals! I used to go through one 2L jug of vinegar a week cleaning my produce, but now I use the Tyent Turbo water setting to clean my produce of herbicides and pesticides. I use Tyent’s special Alkaline Turbo button to soak, and then a quick rinse with the Acidic Turbo button. This helps limit my daily intake of the harmful contaminants that can wreak havoc on a great complexion. Plus I save money on buying vinegar, and reduce the waste involved with buying plastic jugs!

Candice hutchings edgy veg shower filter

  1. Shower with the shower filter: Many people over look this easy but important life change. Did you know that tap water often contains as much, if not more, chlorine than is recommended for use in swimming pools. And this chlorine enters the body through dermal absorption and inhalation while showering more than through drinking tap water!!! Isn’t that insane! I was so consumed with using only natural skincare products and eating clean that I didn’t even realize I was harming my body with more toxins by showering! James and I installed a special water filter to help remove chlorine, sediment, heavy metals, and more from our showering water. Your skin is your largest organ after all, and it absorbs everything, the good and the bad.
