  • 1 Baking Sheet
  • 1 Mixing Bowl (small)
  • 1 Mixing bowl (large)
  • 1 Electric Hand mixer
  • 1 Spatula
  • 1 Cooking Rack
  • 1 Measuring Utensils

Ingredients

  • 6 oz dark chocolate roughly chopped
  • 1/2 cup rolled oats
  • 1 cup unbleached all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 tsp baking powder
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 1/4 tsp cinnamon
  • 1/2 cup unsalted vegan butter room temp
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar packed
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/2 tsp vanilla extract
  • 3 tbsp aquafaba liquid inside can of chickpeas
  • Coarse sea salt as needed (vanilla salt is also amazing for this)

Instructions

  • Preheat the oven to 350F, and grease a baking sheet.
  • In a small mixing bowl, combine the flour, baking powder, kosher salt, rolled oats, and cinnamon.
  • In a large mixing bowl, combine the vegan butter, brown sugar, and granulated sugar. Using an electric hand mixer, beat together the butter and sugars until light and fluffy, 2 to 3 minutes. Beat in the vanilla and aquafaba.
  • Using a rubber spatula, gradually add the flour mixture into the butter-sugar mixture. Mix until just combined. Fold in the chocolate.
  • Spoon tablespoon-size balls of dough onto the baking sheet, leaving about 2 inches between the dough balls. Bake the cookies for 12 to 13 minutes or until just beginning to color.
  • Remove the cookies from the oven and sprinkle each one with a few grains of course sea salt … it’s really important to do this while the cookies are hot so the salt sticks. Let the cookies cool for a couple minutes, then transfer to a cooling rack. Repeat with the remaining dough.

I’m going to show you how to make my easy vegan recipe for pop tarts! You can choose to fill your vegan pop tart(s) with any jam – I choose strawberry jam to make vegan strawberry pop tarts!

All you need is pie crust dough or shells, jam filling for your vegan pop tart, soy milk, maple syrup, vanilla and powdered sugar to make an authentic pop tart that’s vegan!

How To Make Vegan Pop Tarts

This vegan pop tart recipe is super easy to make & only takes 25 mins to make!

For the pie crust, I recommend buying store-bought pie crust dough (most are vegan-friendly just look at the ingredients – look for ones made with vegetable shortening), rolling out the pastry and cutting out 3×5 in squares (about the size of an index card) to make pop tart shapes! Bunch and knead together the excess/remaining piece of crust, roll out and repeat until you’ve used it all. You can also use frozen pie crust shells and thaw them out to mould them into pop-tart shapes!

For your pop tart’s vegan mixture, choose a jam that you love and want into a pop tart like strawberry jam to make vegan strawberry pop tarts. For the vegan pop tart icing, you’ll whisk together powdered sugar, soy milk, jam and vanilla once your pop tarts are done baking.

  • Pie Crust Shells or Dough (vegan-friendly)
  • Soy milk (unsweetened)
  • Maple Syrup
  • Jam or Jelly (Strawberry)
  • Powdered Sugar

Tips:

  • Many store-bought frozen pie pastry shells or dough are “accidentally” vegan! Just check the ingredients list to avoid eggs, milk and butter. Find ones made with vegetable shortening, chances are it is accidentally vegan.

Author:
Recipe type: Dessert
Cuisine: Vegan
Serves: 5
Ingredients
  • 1 vegan-friendly pie crust dough (or 2 frozen pie crust shells), thawed
  • 2 tbsp+ 2-3 tbsp unsweetened soy milk
  • 1 tsp maple syrup
  • ½ cup + 2 tbsp strawberry jelly or jam, as needed
  • 1 cup powdered sugar
  • ½ tsp vanilla
  • unbleached flour, as needed
Instructions
  1. Preheat oven to 375F and line a baking sheet with parchment paper or a silicone baking mat.
  2. In a small cup whisk together soy milk and maple syrup. Set aside.
  3. Unroll or flatten the pie crust onto a sheet of parchment paper and cut out 3x5 in squares(about the size of an index card). Bunch and knead together the excess/remaining piece of crust, roll out and repeat until you’ve used it all.
  4. On half of the cutout crusts spoon roughly 1½-2 tbsp of jam into the center of the rectangles, leaving lots of space from the edges.
  5. Lightly brush the edges with the soy milk mixture, place a second rectangle on top of each one, gently seal the edges together with your fingers, and crimp with a fork.
  6. Gently cut/slice a 2-3 slits on the top of each poptart to create a steam release, and brush with a light layer of the soy milk mixture. Repeat.
  7. Bake for about 10-12 minutes or until golden brown, and allow to cool on a wire cooling rack. Depending on your oven this can go quickly, so keep an eye on them.
  8. Meanwhile, whisk together powdered sugar, 2 tbsp soy milk, 2 tbsp jam and ½ tsp vanilla.
  9. When the poptarts are cooled completely, spread a light layer of icing over each pop tart, and top with any toppings you desire.

Are pop tarts vegan?

Pop tarts are not vegan. Many pop tarts have dairy, egg or even gelatin (in the icing) making most Pop Tarts unsuitable for vegans and vegetarians.

How To Make Sourdough Croutons (Homemade)

How To Make Sourdough Croutons (Homemade)

Homemade sourdough croutons are made from sourdough bread, which is known for its distinct tangy flavor and chewy texture due to the fermentation process it goes through. These croutons are small, crispy, and flavorful cubes of old, stale or toasted sourdough bread that add texture and taste to many dishes.

To make sourdough croutons, first pick out your sourdough bread, ideally stale and old. Then, you’ll slice the crispy bread into cubes of croutons. If your bread isn’t stale, leave it out, as staling the bread is important because it helps the croutons hold their shape and develop a satisfying crunch when toasted.

Next, the best homemade croutons require tasty seasoning! With olive oil, you’re going to whisk together: garlic powder and Italian seasoning. Toss your croutons in your seasoning and transfer to a baking sheet and bake for 10-12 mins, tossing every 5 mins or so. Then transfer to a wire cooling rack and sprinkle with salt!

I’m going to show you how to make a vegan salmon roe in under 20 minutes! This plant-based salmon roe is salty and tastes / looks just like caviar but vegan!

Salmon roe and caviar are both types of fish eggs, but they come from different species of fish and offer distinct characteristics in terms of flavor, texture, and price. And since I’ve created vegan caviar before, I figured I would create an orangish, reddish-coloured vegan salmon row.

Vegan Salmon Roe

One of the biggest food trends that I’ve noticed on the internet right now is caviar… who knew that fish eggs would become super popular and mainstream to eat. Either way, because it’s trendy I wanted to make sure that a vegan salmon row existed for people to try plant-based that replicates the look and taste instead of actually eating fish eggs, because.. ew.

If you’re looking for a copycat salmon row recipe that’s vegan, you’re going to love this one! This recipe is also gluten-free and nut-free! Perfect for vegans and people with fish allergies too!

How do you make vegan caviar? It’s easy to make in terms of ingredients, but in terms of forming the actual balls / eggs, you’ll need a kitchen tool called the spherificator which creates spheres from our mixture. You can order a spherificator on Amazon if you can’t find one in stores since it’s a very specific tool and so much fun to use!

Ingredients
  • 1 cup water
  • 1 tbsp MSG
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1 tsp Annato powder
  • 1¼ tsp (2.5 g) sodium alginate (0.5%)
  • 2 cups water
  • 1 tsp (5 g) calcium chloride (0.5%)
Instructions
  1. Bring 1 cup of water to a boil. Add MSG and annatto powder and whisk until dissolved.
  2. Allow to cool completely.
  3. Add MSG-water and sodium alginate to a blender, and blend until well combined.
  4. Strain the mix and store it in the fridge covered in plastic wrap for a few hours to get rid of the air bubbles.
  5. When ready to use:
  6. In a medium size bowl, dissolve the calcium chloride in 2 cups water, and fill a second bowl with water.
  7. Using a syringe or a caviar maker like the Spherificator, make your caviar! (various techniques below)
  8. After a minute, remove the caviar spheres from the calcium bath with a slotted spoon, rinse them in the clean water bath and serve immediately.
  9. The jellification process continues even after removing the caviar from the calcium bath and will eventually convert into a solid gel sphere with no liquid inside.
  10. Store caviar in the fridge for up to 2 weeks
  11. Serve with vegan sushi (link ours) blinis, toast points, vegan creme fraiche, or butter.
Notes
Method/technique options:
Caviar Maker: Follow the instructions included
With syringe: Fill a syringe with the alginate mixture and expel it drop by drop into the calcium bath. The syringe needs to be high enough (about 3 inches from the bath surface) for the drops to sink and to prevent the formation of a tail. Don’t go too high or the drops may break into smaller drops creating “baby” drops.

How To Make Tan Tan Ramen?

First, find Instant ramen that is vegan! Many instant ramen noodles don’t have any animal products in them but always look at the ingredient list just to make sure. The package of Mr Noodles Vegetable Flavour Instant noodles I use is vegan.

To make tan tan ramen, you want to prepare your vegan “ground meat” alternative. If using soy chunks, rehydrate them in broth & allow them to soak. Then toss them with soy sauce, and fry them in hot oil until they are slightly crispy. Set aside. Next cook your ramen, and vegetables and make your soup base. In your ramen-sized bowl, add your vegan meat substitute with your veggies and ramen noodles. Pour the broth (soup base) over the ramen and voila! That’s how you make tan tan ramen!

Recipe type: Main
Cuisine: Vegan
Serves: 1
Ingredients
  • 1 pack of instant Ramen of choice
  • ½ cup protein of choice like; medium or soft tofu, soy chunks, or ground soy meat
  • 1¼ cups fresh veggies of choice like; bok choy, chopped broccoli, cabbage, or slaw mix
  • ¼ cup frozen corn
  • 1½ tbsp Peanut Butter
  • 1 tbsp chili oil or chili sauce like sriracha or rayu
  • 1 tsp sesame seed oil
Instructions
  1. If using soy chunks, rehydrate them in broth & allow to soak. Then toss them with soy sauce, and fry them in hot oil until they are slightly crispy. Set aside.
  2. Meanwhile, bring 2 cups of water to a boil in a small pot. Remove from heat and add the ramen noodles, allow them to soak for about 3 minutes or until softened, but al dente. Remove from the pot and place into a serving bowl, keeping the hot water in the pot still.
  3. Add the veggies of choice to the boiling hot water, and place back onto the heat. Cook for about 4 minutes, or until tender. About 2 minutes into cooking the veggies add corn.
  4. Remove the veggies and the corn from the pot and place them into the serving bowl.
  5. Make sure you have roughly 1¾ cups water in the pot, and add the seasoning packet, peanut butter, and sesame oil and whisk to combine. Add tofu and cook until heated through.
  6. Place tofu into the serving bowl with veggies and noodles. Then pour the broth over the ramen and arrange garnishes if using. Optional garnishes include chopped peanuts, sesame seeds, sliced green onions, additional chili oil, etc.
