How To Make Sourdough Croutons (Homemade)

How To Make Sourdough Croutons (Homemade)

Homemade sourdough croutons are made from sourdough bread, which is known for its distinct tangy flavor and chewy texture due to the fermentation process it goes through. These croutons are small, crispy, and flavorful cubes of old, stale or toasted sourdough bread that add texture and taste to many dishes.

To make sourdough croutons, first pick out your sourdough bread, ideally stale and old. Then, you’ll slice the crispy bread into cubes of croutons. If your bread isn’t stale, leave it out, as staling the bread is important because it helps the croutons hold their shape and develop a satisfying crunch when toasted.

Next, the best homemade croutons require tasty seasoning! With olive oil, you’re going to whisk together: garlic powder and Italian seasoning. Toss your croutons in your seasoning and transfer to a baking sheet and bake for 10-12 mins, tossing every 5 mins or so. Then transfer to a wire cooling rack and sprinkle with salt!

How To Make Tan Tan Ramen?

First, find Instant ramen that is vegan! Many instant ramen noodles don’t have any animal products in them but always look at the ingredient list just to make sure. The package of Mr Noodles Vegetable Flavour Instant noodles I use is vegan.

To make tan tan ramen, you want to prepare your vegan “ground meat” alternative. If using soy chunks, rehydrate them in broth & allow them to soak. Then toss them with soy sauce, and fry them in hot oil until they are slightly crispy. Set aside. Next cook your ramen, and vegetables and make your soup base. In your ramen-sized bowl, add your vegan meat substitute with your veggies and ramen noodles. Pour the broth (soup base) over the ramen and voila! That’s how you make tan tan ramen!

  4. Remove the veggies and the corn from the pot and place them into the serving bowl.
  5. Make sure you have roughly 1¾ cups water in the pot, and add the seasoning packet, peanut butter, and sesame oil and whisk to combine. Add tofu and cook until heated through.
  6. Place tofu into the serving bowl with veggies and noodles. Then pour the broth over the ramen and arrange garnishes if using. Optional garnishes include chopped peanuts, sesame seeds, sliced green onions, additional chili oil, etc.

For this recipe, you can choose your flavour of vegan creamsicle but I recommend orange for your ice cream!

All you need is orange juice concentrate (thawed), canned coconut milk and vanilla extract to make delicious creamsicle ice cream; perfect for the summer or whenever you crave creamsicles.

To make the vegan ice cream creamsicle, whisk all the ingredients together and either use the ice cream attachment of a stand mixer OR just freeze it in the freezer. It’s that easy!

I’m going to show you how to make easy Adventist haystacks! I use to grow up eating haystacks as my family brought haystacks to potlucks on Saturdays that we would eat together after church or Pathfinders, which is like the Adventist youth group.

What are Adventist haystacks? It’s a traditional Seventh-Day Adventist meal that’s essentially a taco salad and every area of the world has its own version and has endless combinations of tasty toppings.

How To Make Adventist Haystacks

How To Make Adventist Haystacks

What’s great about making a haystack is that you can basically make your taco salad with whatever ingredients you want or have accessible as long as it towers up like a haystack. Haystacks were created by an Adventist woman named Ella May Hartlein, who brought together her favourite tex mex ingredients together and brought it to her church picnic potluck, thus creating this tex mex taco salad we call Haystacks.

The first thing you need to make an Adventist haystack are beans or chilli that you can heat up. If you’re making haystacks for yourself, you can just build your haystacks however way you want to make your taco salad. I usually build it with whole or crunched-up tortilla chips (or Fritos) onto the plate. Add chilli or beans and then top with veggies one layer at a time, finishing with salsa and/or sour cream and green onion or cilantro.

If you’re making haystacks for a potluck or gathering, put all toppings and sauces into separate bowls. That way you can put all ingredients on the table or counter and allow everyone to grab a plate and assemble their own Haystacks, by placing a hand full of whole or crunched-up tortilla chips onto the plate. Add chili or beans and then top with veggies one layer at a time, finishing with salsa and/or sour cream and green onion or cilantro.

Eat with a fork or use your chips to enjoy. It’s that easy.

How To Make Vegan Matzo Balls

This vegan matzo balls recipe is super easy to make & only takes 10 mins or less to make!

To start making your matzo balls, combine the matzo meal, salt, pepper and herbs in a medium-sized bowl and whisk until combined. Set aside.

Next, take another bowl, and add 1/2 cup potato starch and 6-12 tbsp of plain water together until you get a thick, starchy goop. Then add 4 tbsp coconut oil and 1 cup seltzer water and gently mix until combined. Then add your matzo meal and seasonings mixture, and mix until it all comes together.

How To Make Vegan Matzo Balls

TIP: This matzo ball mixture should not be sticky. If it’s too dry, add a spritz more of the seltzer, and if it’s too wet, add a little more matzo meal. You should be able to mix it with your hands without having it stick to all your fingers.

All you have to do next is cover the bowl and refrigerate until you want to form the dough into balls for your soup or other recipes! I usually refrigerate for an hour and then form the dough into matzo balls and add them to my hot soup broth to make matzo ball soup!

How To Make A Vegan Tunacado

To make a tunacado, you’ll need to either make my easy tofu tuna recipe or find vegan tuna in a can (some specialty stores have it) and mix with the sauce ingredients. I discovered that shredded tofu is one of the best substitutes to get a vegan tuna lookalike & perfect for making a tunacado sandwich.

Once you have your vegan tuna or shredded tofu chunks, in a separate large bowl, mix together vegan mayo, lemon juice, soy sauce, and nori powder or kelp powder (for fishy flavour). You can also add some beet powder, but it’s optional, to get a pinkish tint to your tuna. I also love adding green onions to your vegan tuna salad.

TIP: To get the best results, I highly recommend putting your vegan tuna salad into the fridge for a bit for the tofu to absorb and marinate in the delicious sauce mixture to get the best taste for your tunacado sandwich.

To make a tunacado sandwich, add your “tuna” to a toasted bun, with toppings like sliced avocado, tomato and vegan pesto (store-bought or you can make one of my vegan pesto recipes here)!

If you have never tried these sweet snacks before, it is a delicious dessert dip that kids often brought to school as snacks. If you’ve become an adult in recent years, reminiscing your best childhood memories, this recipe is a great way to share stories with your loved ones while snacking on your favorite snacks “back in the days”. Let’s keep veganize our favorite childhood snacks!

 Pro Tips:

  • You can use any crackers you’d like if you cannot find vegan options for animal cookies—any crackers with a hint of gingerbread or cinnamon are a great option.
  • You can use the leftover dip as frostings for cupcakes.
  • Instead of using funfetti cake mix, you can also use either vanilla or chocolate!
